Get the Hoofer. It's a stand bag that rides fine on a cart, weighs 5.5 lbs, and comes in $40 cheaper at list. The Pioneer has a 15-way top and 13 more liters of pocket volume, and those are real advantages — but they only matter if you're on a cart every single round. If you ever walk, the Hoofer is the one. The Pioneer is worth the extra $40 and the extra 2.5 lbs only if your bag never leaves a cart.
Both are PING bags with 16 pockets, a cart strap channel, and a magnetic pocket. Both include rain-hood storage but PING doesn't say a hood ships with either. Both have cart strap channels, so whichever you choose, the bag straps in without blocking your pocket access.
The Hoofer is a stand bag at 5.5 lbs with double shoulder straps and a back-puck conversion to single. The Pioneer is a cart bag at 8 lbs with no stand legs and — because PING doesn't publish a strap type for it — no confirmed carry option at all. That 2.5-lb gap is nothing riding a cart. It is very much something if you're walking the back nine in July, or just hauling the bag from the car to the bag drop.
A cart bag also can't comfortably be carried, stand-legs or not. The Hoofer can do both jobs. The Pioneer can do one.
This is where the Pioneer pulls ahead cleanly. Fifteen individual slots versus five shared ones is a real difference — a 14- or 15-way top means you see the empty slot before you drive off without your gap wedge. With a 5-way top, clubs share space and grips tangle. The Pioneer also adds an enlarged putter well, which PING doesn't mention for the Hoofer.
If you're the kind of player who wants every club in its own home, the Pioneer delivers that. The Hoofer doesn't.
Both bags have 16 pockets, but the Pioneer has 35 liters of volume versus the Hoofer's 22. That's a 13-liter gap. The Pioneer also has a confirmed insulated pocket. PING doesn't list one for the Hoofer.
The Hoofer lists a zip-off ball pocket panel and a velour-lined valuables pocket, plus a magnetic rangefinder pocket. Those are useful, even if the total storage runs smaller.
The Hoofer is 300D polyester and is not sold as waterproof. PING doesn't publish material or waterproof status for the Pioneer. Neither bag is confirmed to include a rain hood — both list a rain-hood pocket or storage compartment, but that's where the published info stops.

The Hoofer is the default because it covers both uses — walking and riding — while the Pioneer only covers one. The Pioneer's 15-way top and 35 liters of storage are genuinely better specs on paper, and if you're 100% committed to cart golf, they're yours for $40 more. But "I always ride" has a way of not being true. A 5.5-lb bag with double straps and a cart strap channel can do the Pioneer's job on a cart. The Pioneer can't return the favor.
